Staffing is going to be a problem - and i have a feeling not just in my school but also in arts & sciences. And we’ll need tech people - who can support the software - so it’s not just bodies but skilled bodies.
keeping people from watering down the major will be another problem - i have to think hard about the core of hte program - decide what I can give up, what absolutely has to stay.
how do we keep it about the content making and not computer programming - how do we keep it about the communication (since that’s what we do)? Otherwise - why should it live in our school? And it’s that communication focus that keeps the program unique I think.
and i have a deep aversion to the idea of turning it into a serious games program - I don’t know why - I think it’s the pompous attitude against doing for profit things or things for entertainment. and maybe it’s because so many of those games aren’t fun. maybe one class - take all the stuff you learn aboutmaking good games, strong game principles andthen apply those principles to different topics - but not as a whole-program focus.
