Staffing is going to be a problem – and i have a feeling not just in my school but also in arts & sciences. And we’ll need tech people – who can support the software – so it’s not just bodies but skilled bodies.
keeping people from watering down the major will be another problem – i have to think hard about the core of hte program – decide what I can give up, what absolutely has to stay.
how do we keep it about the content making and not computer programming – how do we keep it about the communication (since that’s what we do)? Otherwise – why should it live in our school? And it’s that communication focus that keeps the program unique I think.
and i have a deep aversion to the idea of turning it into a serious games program – I don’t know why – I think it’s the pompous attitude against doing for profit things or things for entertainment. and maybe it’s because so many of those games aren’t fun. maybe one class – take all the stuff you learn aboutmaking good games, strong game principles andthen apply those principles to different topics – but not as a whole-program focus.
