Things I want to do in the major

I want people to be able to play a ton of games – MapleStory, Kart Racer, WOW, console games, hand helds… which means we need toys, and space to load game or some way to check out games. Control of toys is going to be a problem. FOrtunately we know how to handle that – we have a whole room of cameras, cables, mics, lights – and a database system for people to reserve what they need to check out. And once we get the toys I have to figure out how to package them up so we can take them to classes – to expose a lot of other students to games (if i can get profs to let me come in and talk) and for students in our game classes.

And I want people to be able to put their games up on the web so others can play them. Like a game portal. SO we need a server. ANd I’d like at some point to work with maybe the interface students to think of ways to monetize the games – wrap them in ads, sell points and make eachgame worth a few points. Not to make money but to play with ideas about monetization. And to see how we advertise such a site – could we drive traffic withfacebook ads only for instance. It would be a way to bring in the business students and IMC guy. (since this is supposed to be an interdisciplinary degree – I want to bring in as many different kinds of studnets as possible.

And I’d like students to write a column that we could syndicate – game design insights maybe, reviews focused on usability and not popularity… Not sure exactly. But there is so little good game journalism out there that it would add a lot to the general discussion of games. Maybe it could be a blog on the iMPrint site? again – working that interdisciplinary angle.
