one dept chair wanted us to add them as an acceptable minor – they have a couple of classes that might be interesting, but the other prof involved in the planning and I decided to stand firm on the need for an outside minor. the students have electives, they can use those for classes in the school.
Another prof wanted literary analysis classes. Yuck. I think they need straight literature classes – read big stories. Students culd get big stories from a folklore class or a religion class or a class on myths.
Maybe we need lists of electives to suggest to the students – help them use their electives wisely. Encourage them to take gym classes where they play games and look at the rules in sports and look at how people look while playing sports (muscles, equipment, position). Encourage them to do some small group classes. Putting together such a list shouldn’t be too much trouble.
And the new dept chair wants to talk resources and what classes I’ll be able to teach in the future – beats me – depends on what htey want me to teach, who we hire… I want to teach them all all the time<G> but that’s probably not going to happen. We might get 10 students, we might get 40 students. How the heck do i know. Gotta not overthink this I have a feeling<G>
