Game Jams

I saw this post on a blog about teaching game design – the author describes some games made at a game jam – http://teachingdesign.blogspot.com/2007/12/pittsburgh-game-jam-games-available-for.html

That would be a fun event to schedule once we get people up to the junior and senior year of classwork. the one the blogger mentions was in Pittsburgh in November. They were developing games for the new One Laptop per Child laptop to be distributed in developing countries – the games are posted at http://www.olpcgames.org/?p=28

There have been other game jams where the goal is to make as many games as possible in 4 days – the indie game jam has happened a couple of times and the results were shown at the Game Developer Conference – http://www.indiegamejam.com/

then there’s the pronto game jam – http://www.prontogames.com/developer/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=46&Itemid=98

and the boston game jam – http://bostongamejam.com/

and the cutely named ToJam – Toronto Jam – www.tojam.ca/

so there’s lots of examples to look at if we decided to put something together and lots to check out if we had achance to go “watch” – another trip to toronto wouldn’t be bad
