Sent off email to all the involved departments – have to get their ok to include their classes. The associate dean is adding numbers to the paperwork to get it startede moving thru the system. So much paperwork. Talked to the dean about faculty and double checked that what i was saying was accurate – we’re going to stay flexible with the hiring, look for someone with some production experience that applies to videogames – that would be great for me
And i’m off to GDC – i need to print out my tentative schedule – i noticed in some time slots i picked out 4 things that sound good. That is so not even physically possible<G> I’m trying to hit game design stuff, some of the business stuff, and a few audio and visual panels as well. I’m trying to figure out big topics that we should cover, get some industry stories to tell the student, and some industry direction to help guide the program as we develop it. It would be nice to meet some folks who might want to give a talk too – maybe from LA over the tv or in person. I wish i was better at smoozing.
I’ve got to get the class for the fall going this summer – i like hte idea of having them read some novels – they hve novels based on some of hte bigger game s- halo, mass effect, wow. And I love JPOD nad Lucky Running Boy. COuld tie that in with movies based on games. Talk about moving the stories back and forth. I definitely want to do a unit on that. Just figure out how to set up a project for it.
I also want us to play games – not videogames, but card and board and dice games. Easier to map out the rules and change gameplay without worrying about programming. Maybe have a project to create a new board game
