Media literacy project - look at the media to see how they cover/treat games
- media = news magazines, business magazines, mens & womens magazines, tv news - not computer game magazines
- where are games covered - what department(s)
- time period - need to go back to arcade period I think - so 70s maybe - about 40 years
- how often are games included in the content
- tone of the coverage
- divide students into groups, each group looks at one of the mediums over a period of time, every issue of a magazine for a year for instance and make a chart of the data
- then we put the chart together - different mediums, over time and students analyze the change (or the lack of change), suggest reasons
- get research experience - collecting data, setting up the project
- get analysis experience - sumarizng data, looking for differences over time, backing up observations with examples
- get writing experience - document the process, note problems, write up results, class creates some kind of big doc/experience and we share on the web
- have to promote the research - can we turn it into a game idea?
