The last speaker - who worked on gods of war (was the game director for gods of war 2) had good advice for soon to be job seekers
- play the games of the company where you’re interviewing
- play games, think of what you like and don’t like about them - and be ready to talk about how to make them better
- have a broad education - be wiling to learn about new stuff (like mythology)
- know when to back down when suggesting ideas - do suggest ideas, but when the people in charge have reasons for not doing them, sometimes you have to back down and do what htey want - he pushed to get christopher lee to be the voice of zeus and turns out he was a pain to work with and wouldn’t domore than 2 takes and wouldn’t take direction
- be prepared to work a lot of crappy hours -he had crunch time for over a year
- be prepared for crappy pay - he didn’t get a raise in 4 years (soundsw like sony is not a good company to work for!) even when he had a major change in job title and responsibilities
advice from other speakers about careers
- develop a good eye for design while in school
- network in the industry
- need to be skilled enough to get project done on time and in good quality - can show that with school projects
- internships are good - he did one after graduation that lead to a job
- demo reel is very important, that helps you get the job
