sometimes we can see a logical path once we use lateral thinking to come up with a solution – but there’s no guarantee that using logic (vertical) thinking would have been successful at reading this solution

it’s not an either or thing – use both lateral and vertical thinking, use lateral thinking to come up with lots of possibilities, use vertical to sort thru those possibilities to get good solution, they’re complementary, but can’t use vertical isntead of lateral because ya shortchange yourself on the idea generation phase

CH4 – basic nature of lateral thinking

lateral thinking concerned with changing patterns of information, several patterns together make up a way of thinking, patterns should be repeatable, recognizable and usable, no limit to the size of a pattern
