- check out Caerleon Isle
- check out Sarah Nerd’s freebie paradise (NineInchNerds 156,120,24 — notice name all one word) - they have 3 skee ball games to play (gives you instructions and a launcher when you click on it - get to practice being in mousemode and wearing attachments), there’s a conect4 game for 2 people to play, a game called greedy greedy (that might need money to play - rules on a poster on teh wall or at the bottom of the notecard it gives ya when ya sit down). Check out the Fab Free box in the media center (right in front of the games - it’s an example of html on a prim. Lots of freebies then on the walls - including naked skins (up on the 2nd or 3rd floor, not for the squeamish so be careful looking around). Outside are some regular stores, interesting use of textures, crowded space
- You might also check out the NMC campus where an NMC free games and an NMC teacher’s tool box are freely provided. Also check the Bazaar (STillman 142,86,23), and of course the ICT Library on info island. Lots of goodies there
- I love the The Opinionator: a Likert Scale Social Graphing Tool. It can be bought from its builder/scripter Entropy Hax in-world for $L 99: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Tupi/143/140/303 I must confess that he made it to my specifications so I am partial to it. I don’t make any money from its sale. An example of it is set out at the above slurl. Right click on it to choose buy. I recommend you bring a couple people with you to try it out. The pie chart in the middle doesn’t appear until avatars step onto the mat. The attached picture doesn’t show that the number of people and percentage are both displayed. IM Entropy Hax with any questions. Or if you want to talk with me about how I use any of the social activities I listed, don’t hesitate to contact me.
- Check out the November 07 box of free gadjets at Yadni’s junkyard Newbie Paradi, Leda (210, 28) - something kind of similar to the Simon game, a Tower of Hanoi, a game like Concentration (match the pairs of blocks), and something that wasn’t immediately apparent to me but is probably a game. Yadni’s has fewer boxes now but has a sandbox area to test the stuff. Thereare some vehicles to buy that would be fun to drive around in the test area.
- SaLamander Wiki’s collection: http://www.eduisland.net/salamanderwiki/ has lots of resources - including constructivist oriented list of learning engagement types - copied below
- One useful way of categorizing Second Life creations for educators is by what the learners will DO when they engage with the build:
- Experiential…………..learners are immersed in the recreation of an experience or phenomenon.
- Role play……………..Second Life builds intended (or useful) for taking on a particular role for educational and/or entertainment purposes
- Diagnostic…………….builds that engage the learner by asking questions that ascertain their knowledge through quizzes, prompts, or other assessment methods
- Problem-solving………..Second Life builds with the intention that the learner solve a problem or some kind
- Demonstration………….Demonstrations and presentations of information - as in museums, galleries, presentations, etc.
- Collaborative………….Second Life locales and activities that demand and/or encourage a certain level of cooperation and collaboration
- Constructive…………..Second Life learning locations and activities that engage the learner in creating objects and building things, themselves
- Skill Building…………Second Life learning locations that focus on the development of skills (real world or Second Life)
