it was a short week – started school on wednesday. Week 2 will be short too because of Labor Day.Guess we’re going to just ease into the semester. Good thing too since I needed to finish up my tenure file and it’s just too nice to think about papers and assignments.
The first day we played rock paper scissors – talked about what’s a game, what’s a fun game, modding and game testing. I thought it would be a low stress way to kick off the semester. We went over the syllabus a little. Will need to do it again in week 3 I think once things are settled down. On Friday we were going to play calvin ball but it rained. SO we played Gnostica – they ahd to create their own rules and then had to create a rule to break the game. We will refer back to these experiences this semester and next.

Next week we start discussing the textbook – i need to reread my notes. I still hope to play calvinball – it ties into the discussion of what’s a game. The chapter also talks about types of play and the history of play. I think maybe we need to watch a little of that A&E show on toys and games. It talks about toys and games and play too.
it’s a big group but so far talkative and willing to do all the activities. Tho of course, what’s not to like about playing games. I need to finish the google forms/spreadsheet to see what game experience they have. Mostly I need to think about what i want to know.
