the big assignment comparing games

• think it needs to be 2 or three specific assignments – turn in the game one, thent he videogame one, then for the final do a comparison, maybe half hte class is doing the board games while other half doing the videogames and then we flip to spread out the use of the toys
• let the group take the game home, maybe they present it to class, maybe they present it to another group and teach them how to play – that would work – the board game people teach the videogame people. Everybody gets a chance to teach and to be taught
• need worksheets each week wile they’re playing to help them gather the info they need
• assign groups specific videogames to play (contrast with the board games they’re assigned maybe, assign different platforms, spread out the use of different platforms)
• maybe final part should be individual – groups could be different for the videogame part and the board game part (tho have to keep the videogame guys together and the boardgame guys together so everybody does both)
• need to pick specific kinds of games for this class and then different ones for the 2nd semester – maybe the first semester we go for party games , in 2nd semester we do eurogames
• we need to talk about target audience before they write up that section – maybe we put it in the final paper – how well do the games cater to their stated audience
• ask them something about reading the directions – this semester they didn’t mention reading the directions of videogames and complained about how complex the directions were for the board/ card games.
• have them end specifically (before the conclusion) witha definition of games and make sure there’s a part specifically talking about strategy and chance

advertising

gotta talk about good and bad advertising, about target audiences – for the adv assignment nad the game comparison assignment

maybe it would be good to look at ads in family magazines and study how they sell products

Should we all make ads for hte same game to compare the ads better? Should each group make several ads for the same medium maybe for different audiences or for different times of hte year ?
