reading notes – avedon games as structure

we classify games by what makes them differenet from each other – games for kids/games for adults, indoor games/outdoor games, games that need equipment/games that don’t need equipment, games for girls/women and games for boys/men

says we also need to look at what games have in common – what makes them all games – some structural elements, things that don’t change from game to game

- first efforts game up with players, rules, results/pay-off, strategies — escept strate3gy is something the player brings to hte game, not something intrinsic to the game

- Mead (anthro) says games “pattern or set of specific social situations which affect personality” and that games had logic, definite end to be obtained, actions of the players are all related to each other with reference to htat end — purpose of the game (= the game logic), game has procedures for actions (?? rules??), game has interrelated actions or interaction patterns, games require players to take roles, and there are rules governing action
