might be an interesting underlying discussion – how are these things that they know from tv and movies different/same in games – character, story, audio… might be a starting point for each chapter – what’s different here, what can we use that we already know?
1st week – just wednesday so need to figure out most important stuff to get them started on projects
- go over projects, teams, do quick intros in the team
- talk about the textbooks – they’re quick overviews of the decisions game designers have to make
- look at the syllabus and project descriptions – have to get started on a couple of htem now – say by monday what book you’re going to do and get it ordered/bought. Have to make a blog – I’d suggest blogspot.com – cant’ use it for other classes but you can post other game related stuff on it – but be sure I can tell which is the post for the game analysis assignment. Need to learn how to edit on the wiki (i need a worksheet and to set up a sandbox area – or maybe they edit on tehir own page for their group? – but definitely need a worksheet)
- need google doc forms for evaluating their team mates for each project
- need grade rubric for each assignment
crap – amazon doesn’t have any pyramids – gotta check the game store in binghamton, see if bookstore still has them – if can’t get them – gotta rethink order of the projects – added Friday – game store in binghamton did have them and I sent a message to students from last semester to see if htey wanted to sell their pyramids back for $5
need teams for the first couple of projects – - added on friday – on the grade spreadsheet – need to make sheets for each table so they know where to sit
sent an email to the icehouse list trying to find email contacts for some game designers
